The New Critic is ran by archivist and art critic Marisa Kelly. Marisa has been in the art industry since 2015, starting her career at the Aurora Museum and the Aurora National Historic Site. In 2017 she moved to London, England to gain research and archive experience at the Benjamin Franklin House. In 2018, Marisa enrolled into the Ontario College of Art and Design, and started her critical writing practice upon finishing her first academic year. Marisa has frequently volunteered for galleries and museums around Toronto such as the Koffler Centre of the Arts and the Bata Shoe Museum. She currently handles Terry Shortt’s water colour paintings at the Royal Ontario Museum and is the head archivist at the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery. She frequents Toronto based galleries and publishes her critiques.
